Bullet – Highway Pirates (2011)

Posted: February 18, 2011 in Music

In case you haven’t noticed, there has been a bit of a classic metal revival going on lately. New bands such as Airbourne and Black Tide have encapsulated the 80’s metal sound, while long-standing European stalwarts such as Sturm and Drang and Crazy Lixx have been doing it for years. The latest entry into the mix is Sweden’s Bullet.

Bullet’s soon-to-be-released CD, Highway Pirates, is about what you’d expect from one of these renaissance bands. Simple guitars, high hat rhythms, and a leather-jacket clad vocalist screaming out his best Bon Scott impersonation track after track.

I’m not sure if Bullet and their counterparts are simply paying homage to the greats, or if they have been living in some time capsule where Back In Black is the only thing on rotation. Either way, it’s a nice reminder of a great sound from a scene long ago.

Think AC/DC, Judas Priest, Kix, Motorhead, Saxon, and Iron Maiden all thrown into a huge diamond-plated blender, and this would be the ensuing cocktail. Throw on your studded leather wristcuffs and enjoy. Nothing wrong with a little mindless rock and roll from time to time.
