As I Lay Dying – The Powerless Rise (2010)

Posted: February 1, 2011 in Music

I’ve never been a huge fan of Christian metal, but one band stands out and deserves a little attention.

On May 11, 2010, As I Lay Dying released their album “The Powerless Rise” For this album, the metal/thrash/hardcore group worked with producer Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage/Times of Grace) who they have previously worked with for An Ocean Between Us. The idea behind The Powerless Rise is the “notion that if we do the opposite of what the modern world tells us, many of the problems this current world causes will no longer exist.” Frontman Tim Lambesis said that they are more so trying to offer a solution with The Powerless Rise, rather than just ranting about how “it is a broken system” that we face today.

The Powerless Rise delivered the same excellency that they are known for; a few melodic choruses, intense guitar riffs, hardcore drumming, and this time around also they incorporated what seems to be more meaningful and stronger lyrics. In a few songs such as “Parallels” and “Upside Down Kingdom” they started off a bit slower in order to intensify the dramatic ease into the rest of their normal hardcore, heavy ways.

Since their previous album, As I Lay Dying seems to have matured and to have honed in on their artistic skills together to make a great album that “bleeds excellence.” Check it out – it comes highly recommended.
