What had been buzzing the comic community for several months became a reality this week. The Fantastic Four, which first appeared in 1961, have lost a member. Johnny Storm – aka The Human Torch – was killed off by writer’s of the long-running comic in it’s current issue (which came available this week).

Fantastic Four #587 marked the end of the Human Torch, and has brought the Fantastic Four’s run of 40 years to an end as well. Issue #588 (available late February) will be the last comic in the series.

The story line with remaining members (Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, and Thing) will relaunch in March, in a new series simply titled “FF”.

All three of these titles should be marginally collectible, and issue #587 has great long-term financial upside. That is if you can find it…
